Fresh from a failed attempt to unseat House Speaker Johnson, Georgia Republican Rep Marjorie Taylor Greene once again drew attention to her racism. This time, targeting Democratic Texas Representative Jasmine Crockett whom she derided for wearing false eyelashes.
The presiding House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer chose to ignore Greene’s foul remarks. Yet Rep. Crockett pushed for a clarification whether Comer will still consider it okay if she said that a person has “bleach blonde bad built butch body,” which clearly referred to Greene’s physical attributes.
What was the House Oversight Committee Session About
The Oversight Committee was actually holding a session to decide whether Atty. General (AG) Merrick Garland should be held in contempt of court for refusing to hand over an audio recording of an interview involving Pres. Joe Biden. However, the chaos started after Greene insulted Crockett over her false eyelashes. It also led to a heated exchange of words between the attention-seeking Georgia Rep. and Democratic NY Democratic Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez who pointed out that Greene’s behavior was unacceptable.
The 4-hour, Republican-led House Oversight Committee session ended with a 24-20 vote in favor of advancing contempt proceedings versus AG Garland. The Atty. General continued to deny the House Committee’s request to obtain audio files containing an interview with Pres. Joe Biden regarding the classified documents case raised against the US President.
Representative Jasmine Crockett later said in an interview with CNN that she does not anticipate repercussions from Green. Still, the Texas Representative wants House Speaker Johnson to reign in Greene for her unprofessional behavior, which included her failed attempt to oust Johnson as speaker of the Lower House.
