Torbay to contest Nationals pre-selection for New England
LEADER of The Nationals Warren Truss has welcomed the announcement by NSW Independent Richard Torbay that he will join The Nationals and nominate for pre-selection in the seat of New England at the next election.
“Richard, myself and the Nationals team share a common bond in our determination to see better outcomes for rural and regional Australia,” Mr Truss said.
“We’re dedicated to our local communities, the interests of country people and the importance of reinvesting in regional Australia. As our ‘Regional Investment Strategy’ makes clear, in tackling these issues we can go a long way towards getting this nation back on track and growing.
“Richard has been a strong representative for the communities of the Northern Tablelands at both local and state government levels. If he succeeds through the pre-selection process and becomes the next federal member for New England, I look forward to working with him to promote the interests of the region in the federal parliament.
“The Nationals MPs are a team of local champions for the communities we represent and we come together as a party for a common good.
“Richard has indicated his intention to continue to speak out on behalf of his community. We expect no less. Richard, like the rest of The Nationals, will continue to be forceful in advocating local concerns.
“The Nationals are determined to make sure that regional Australia is strongly represented in the next Coalition federal government. New England will play a crucial part in achieving that goal.
“Richard Torbay is making a stand in the interests of his local community and his country. That’s what The Nationals are all about.”
